You may need a crown if …

Our team works closely with you and your family to preserve the health and beauty of your natural teeth. If, however, a tooth becomes damaged due to decay, gum disease, or other trauma, we may recommend restorative dental treatment. The most conservative option for treatment is preferred because these options preserve maximum tooth structure. A large filling to treat a cavity, for instance, may not adequately support the tooth’s structure. A dental inlay may be appropriate to resolve damage between the cusps or points of the tooth. To resolve more extensive damage, a dental onlay is placed within the grooves on the tooth’s surface and at least one cusp as a more conservative alternative. The onlay may be insufficient to restore a damaged or deeply decayed tooth. In turn, a full-coverage crown is recommended. Root canal therapy may precede placement of the crown.

Additionally, full crowns can breathe new life into:

  • Very weak teeth
  • Severely broken or fractured teeth
  • Excessively worn teeth
  • Repeatedly treated teeth

Crowns are a necessary part of tooth replacement; for instance, crowns placed on neighboring teeth support replacement teeth as part of a dental bridge. They are also the “finishing touch” of the dental implants process. The implant “roots” the overlying crown in the jaw, just like a natural tooth root. Versatile crowns may even be used to cover up very irregularly shaped or irregularly sized teeth.

What is a Dental Crown?

Hi, this is Dr. Sundar Jagadeesan from Dentiq in Napier. I want to speak to you about tooth-supported crowns, generally known as caps.

A dental crown is a tooth restoration that replaces lost, weak, damaged, or unsightly tooth structure.

All the crowns made at Dentiq are made in-house, and we provide the same-day crown service. All the crowns are made with ceramic, either Emax or Zirconia.

What are the benefits of Dental Crowns?

It replaces a missing or broken tooth structure. Also, it protects weakened teeth due to large fillings/decay from breaking and improves the bite and appearance of a damaged tooth.

Dental crowns reduce the risk of tooth decay in the future.

How durable are Dental Crowns?

Depending on the material used, 80% of crowns should last up to 20 years.

But, excessive biting pressure may cause the crown to chip, break, or wear out. Decay may occur on the root surface if the crown does not cover the tooth.

Visit us at Dentiq, and we can provide you with insight and guidance to choose the best possible treatment for you.

The beauty of state-of-the-art care

As its name suggests, crowns are placed 0ver the top of “prepared” natural tooth structure similar to how a crown or cap fits over your head. Preparation involves removing damaged parts of the tooth and shaping it. So, that way, the crown fits precisely. Crowns may be made with a variety of materials, including dental ceramics, gold and other metal alloys, or a mix of metals and ceramics. Dr. Sundar discusses your options and considers factors such as the location of the damaged tooth and your personal preferences.

Traditionally, the crowns process requires at least two dental appointments. The first visit involves preparing both the natural tooth and the crown. A temporary crown is placed to protect the prepared treatment site. Information about your tooth is then sent to an outside lab. The second visit involves removing the temporary and securely “fixing” the permanent, lab-made crown in place. At Dentiq, the entire process can be completed in a single visit. Our onsite lab uses computer-aided design and manufacturing technologies to prepare and fabricate the crown from a quality block of durable porcelain. Refinements can be made quickly. No temporary. No wait. No worries.Schedule your visit at our Greenmeadows office. Ring us 06 880 6161.
